My tech savvy friends,
I have been given the green light to get a new computer. My last one was an IBUYPOWER and it was good. But I have limited knowledge of what MOBO is better, case, power supply, etc. This is what I amateurly put together, but I am looking for your good advice PLEASE! I want to make sure if I spring for a GTX 590 that I am not creating a bottleneck somewhere else. Here is what I have so far @ IBUYPOWER.COM:
Case - Coolermaster Silencio 550
CPU - i7-2600K 4x3.4GHz 8MB cache
Memory - 8GB DDR3-1600
Vidcard - single Nvidia GTX 590 3MB
MoBo - ASUS P8Z68-V LX
Power - 850watt Corsair CMPSU-850AX
Drive - 120GB Corsair Force series 3 SSD
CD - Standard 24x CDR/RW
COST = $2,062.00
Please point out if I am making any stupid/less than smart choices. I don't know any better.
Feel free to email me at
scott.frey [at] robins.af [dot] mil
as I am not able to peruse this forum at work.
Thank you so much for any help,
Scott

Be sure to get an after-market cooler for that CPU. Those are so easy to overclock. I got my 2600k to 4.7ghz with just a single BIOS tweak, and to the now-stable 5.0ghz with some more time/work. Bu sure to turn off Hyper-Threading, which can be quite detrimental to framerates, though awesome for other stuff like Adobe or A/V encoding.
If you don't do that stuff, you may want to consider the 2500k; almost 100 bucks cheaper, and that could go to another 8gb of RAM or something. Or a more robust motherboard. Either way - yay. New computer builds are always neat.
Will you not need a DVD or Blu-Ray burner?

I just bought 16 Gb of RAM from Newegg for $89. That will be the start of my new AMD based system. I agree with CHUD...save the $100 and go for the slightly less powerful CPU; you can always upgrade later and you honestly wouldn't notice the difference anyway. If you aren't married to Intel, you may want to consider the 8 core AMD FX-8120 or 8150. Both are in the $200s (220/270) on Newegg. The savings could go towards another video card. Lastly, dont forget to pick up a couple of 1.5 Tb drives for storage/backup. That 120 Gb SSD won't hold too much.

Apostle...go look up the exact same items on Newegg.com I think you will get a lot cheaper prices. Also the only thing I see is lacking in the memory ist 1600. You can get a lot faster than that.

I would pipe up for a DVD drive at least. Most new games are on DVD if not download. You might also want to watch movies on it!

Id say spend some money and get a Cav Blue or Cav Black HDD. Terabyte HDDs are cheap now, and you can never go wrong with extra space.
My Steam folder is as big as your SSD

I think it looks good. But like others have metion ....get an extra HD.
Memory is good enough. And make sure that the graphic card fits in the case.
And u may need a cooler for ur prosessor.
