First thought this can't be good. Second thought maybe we will get more movies now...

Here is a little more "teeth" behind the acquisition and your thoughts on other movies...

"LOS ANGELES –  Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series called "Episode 7," set for release in 2015, with plans to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years. The Walt Disney Co. announced the agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC. Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become its president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films. Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass `Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."

I can only see this as being a good thing.  There are some very creative folks working for Disney.  As long as they follow at least part of the expanded Star Wars universe instead of reboots/sequels/prequels/anything to do with the original film, I'm sure they will make some great movies while at the same time raking in a buttload of money.  Now they just need to hurry up and bring me a JJ Abrams Old Republic movie.

I thought cats playing with dogs and Hurricane Sandy were the beginning of the end of the world.

Ive heard that Lucas was looking at making episodes 7, 8, & 9 and they they were going to use the original cast from 4, 5 & 6 or remake 4, 5 & 6 but something like this.  Sounds like Lucas just wants cash out while he's led left in his pencil.

I think it's a good thing...as long as they avoid the reboot/remake thing AND stick to the continuity from both the movies and the EU.  Tet, I like where you're going with the JJ Abrams thing...

Yes, Episode 7 will be chock full of excessive lens flares and bad camerawork. Personally, I think his direction technique is awful.

Not all too surprising, all in all. Lucasfilm was never going to do more Star Wars movies - Episode 3 was the ..least bad, of that last batch, so the bar is low. I recently grabbed HD versions of the franchise, and skipped Phantom Menace. Once was more than enough. But remember that Disney also bought Marvel a few years ago, and the Marvel universe movies released since have been as good as before the buy.

Then again, homogeny is a bad thing. Content of any media is dictated by the owners. The fewer owners any media has, quality and variety often starts to slide.

Episode 7 and 8 will directly follow the original story line. After that they will probably tie in the expanded universe and may even buy up some of the fan fiction that has been written to add to it all. I see this as being a good thing. This mean there will be more of the only movie series I was willing to wait outside of a movie theater all day to make sure I had tickets to midnight showings.

I just watched the interview that Alucard posted and its interesting that Lucas wants to sit on the bench for the up coming movies and be a "Yoda" to the up and coming movies, but if you read the article that I posted, you will see Lucas by far is not going to be completely out of the picture.

"The deal will make Lucasfilm owner George Lucas a significant shareholder in Disney, which will pay for the film company with $2 billion cash and around 40 million shares of its stock."

This is a quote from the article and to me it appears that George is going to be a big part of not only the movies but Disney itself.
