My wife's HP Envy h8 1414 will not boot. Problem just started. It will turn on, I have all fans but locks up on the black screen with HP logo in the center. I ran the on board diag tool and says my hdd is good, processor good and memory is good. I changed the  memory anyway..still no boot.
2 things I noticed. I turned on the speakers and no post beeps, also I can not access the BIOS settings. MOBO dead?

make sure your battery on your motherboard is good

Even with a dead mobo battery,  it should still boot,  but retain  no settings like time/data and non-default settings.  If memory serves,  HP BIOS are accessed with f1 or f10. Did  you add hardware?

Unlikely for a desktop, but if it's been particularly dry there, it could be static buildup.  Unplug from the wall, remove that button battery on the motherboard,and hold the power button for 30 seconds or so. As hinted at above, removing the battery will reset the clock.

It the motherboard replace it

Any micro AM3 or AM3+ board will work
You will more than likely need to reload windows.

Abram, I added bid card and psi about 6 weeks ago with no problems. I did disable secure boot and enable leaf act support.
Arrgghhh, why would I need to install windows when replacing the mobo?

Update
Finally noticed that when screen freezes my hdd indicator light goes out. So I have a hdd with Xperia on it. Plugged it and I get to xp load screen, goes to "windows did not open properly" I select safe mode, shows files then freezes and hdd indicator goes out. I assume that's because it needs to see win8,
Still mobo or hdd?

Tonight I swapped out the videocard, no difference. Mobo is on order.

Are you going to keep your current CPU?  If not,  which model is it?  I'm on the hunt for a better AM2...

I'll keep the current cpu, funds are low right now. If I upgrade in the future I will let you know for sure Abram.

Need more help!
The oem heat-sink/fan is proprietary...it screws down on the motherboard. I just received a Gigabyte 78LMT mobo it has a bracket the heat sink and fan clamp to. I'm having a tough time finding  decent heat-sink/fan. All suggestions appreciated.

Anything is better than stock.  Even a cheap one will beat its- pants off.  I use an Arctic Cooling Pro on my htpc,  and does a great job
It was about 25 bucks. Try to get one that blows out today's your output fan at the top/rear.

The reason you will need to reload windows because the driver and chipset are different,

Most time it will not boot because of that.

The easiest way is SYSPREP the current install after the motherboard is installed and running.
This could save the time of reloading everything,

I want to thank everyone for their help. My wife's pc is now running!!!
Installed the mobo and heat sink/fan , pressed the power button, windows8.1 set devices and went right to the desk top!!
Lost nothing
Greatly appreciate your help and advice , thanks again
