Hey Gals and Guys,

Yesterday we made a family trip to Bastogne in the Belgian Ardennes, known as where the battle of the bulge has been held during WW2.

I thought I past some pics for those who’ve been or haven’t been there or wanted to visit, or just are interested, the rest can disregard my post Wink.

The monument stays impressive and is huge.
The museum has been renewed completely in 2014, there are automatic audio guides, who start playing while you move before the displays, don’t bother pressing the correct buttons or so, completely my thing (and for the kids also).

There is a story through the hole visit about a local young fella 13y, a local lady teacher who joined the resistance, a US 101st airborne fella and a German soldier.
Their stories join in the process where they all met during this battle in some way.

Really interesting to hear this story out of their lives and not just a strategic teaching about the fighting’s which of course also is there. It makes it all more human from a point of view from all involved parties.

Thought I would post this for the people interested.

Thank you Natb1 !

What i forget to mention is that there are also 3 movie theatres but really decorated and full with special effects.
The first one is a briefing room where you wear 3d goggles and it explains the battle itself.
The second one is a view on the woods where you sit on tree trunks, mist appearing video walls in the sealing and in the woods, explains the close combat battle.
And the third one you are sitting really in a bar at tables and see the day to day life when suddenly the bar moves up and you sit in a shelter, really impressive…

I have not been to the Battle of the Bulge but I did get to walk the beaches at Normandy where D-Day happened. What a amazing place to visit! Hopefully someday I will get to tour more battle fields in Europe.

Really cool, hope to take a tour of Europe. I was stationed there and saw nothing, now that I'm a bit older and can appreciate the grand scope of loss and struggles I am embarrassed for not going before. Thank you for sharing.  Smile
