i have been offered a great deal so i am planning on upgrading heres what i have so far

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz (Socket AM3)
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
4 x 2GB Corsair XMS3 DHX DDR3 1600C9DHX Twin3X
BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI
2 X Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10000RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache OR 1 x 1TB western digital cavair black 32 mb cache 7500rpm
LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Rewriter & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive
CoolerMaster Real Power 1250w Power Supply
CoolerMaster Cosmos S RC-1100  or stick with my CoolerMaster Cosmos RC-1000 if I cannot have the case


can any one suggest any thing that i could improve

an i am not going sli cos its not beneficial

A friend had Raptor disk's and got rid of them. Apparently they are a bit noisy.

I understand your disdain for Intel since you had previous trouble with them. However, I think Intel is so much better performance at the top end and you would be doing yourself harm because you dislike Intel for the one horrible incident you had with them. AMD will one day no longer exist. They are cheaper priced for a good reason. Benchmarks and customer satisfaction should have steered you in the proper direction. I have a dozen computers in my home and two of them are AMD products, however one was a motherboard that I won in a sweepstakes and the other one I bought for my youngest grandson. He is 2 and 1/2 and still only bangs on the keys. 2 others started when they were 3 and neither need help with anything now they just turned 6 and 7.
  Please do not stab yourself in the back by buying top of the line AMD. You may regret such a decision. Your choice, Sir.

The phenom II from AMD is a GREAT Processor in all actuality. It typically beats most  quad core seteups from intel, except for the i7, which is top of the microprocessor class right now.

Price to performance, you can not beat a Phenom 2, for $189 you can get a quad core phenom 2 that easily o'cs to 3.8ghz, with a 2.6ghz northbridge and HT clock, coupled with DDR3, the performance falls behind only i7 and xeon procesors fro mal lthe benchmarks I have ran.

I myself built an amazing gaming rig for under $700 (paid $200 more for a very nice 24" monitor that I needed since I was switching from a laptop, in my current setup, Phenom 2 x3 @3.7ghz, 4gb 1333hz ddr3 @6-6-6-18, 500gb segate 7200.12, 22x dvd burner, Gigabyte Am3 Mobo,  3 120mm fan gamming case and 650 PSW all running a Geforce 275, I get 100-140fps (average on all maps) @1920x1800 with 4xaa and 16x AF in WAW....all for under $700 shipped.

I guess my point is to anyone out there who is considering a new system and money is a real consideration, you can build a great gaming rig without breaking the bank...

And also, remember, that VIDEOCARD>>>>>>CPU/Ram/HD, when it comes to gaming, you can have the most powerful 1000 dollar i7 processor with 16gb of 2000mhz ddr3, and if you don't have a high end video card, you will be out performed easily by someone who does on a system with 1/2 the CPu Power.  

Also, have been hearing alot of talk about memory, more does not equal better necessiarily...nether does pure clock speed...what you what is the best mix of clock speed and lowest latency possible...in my case I went with the 1333mhz low latency 6-6-6-18 ram, for the same price as the 1600mhz ddrs 9-9-9-27...and total memory, I have only 4gb, with win 7, antivirus, steam, Ie, picassa and WAW running, I am still at only 50%, that means I have 2gb's just sitting there all the time doing nothing...unless your heavily into graphic design, photo editing, video encoding, high end production stuff, right now there is no need for more then 4gb...I will probably pick up another 4gb when the price comes down a bit for future applications...

If anyone every has any system build questions let me know I would be happy to help you build the lowest cost to highest performance system you can:)

Sorry Mr. T I just realized this is completely unhelpful to you!, Except on the CPU part, te Phenom II is a Great Part:) Also, I have been hearing alot of PC hardware talk on TS and with no Mic, I have not been able to chime in at all!

The first setup your looking is really nice.  A friend of mine has a Black Edition and it overclocked really well.  He used low voltages and is really happy with it.

If you are going with the Intel might I suggest instead of the 975 go with the 920.  It will save you a lot of $ and can be clocked pretty close to the 975.  You could us the savings and get a EVGA classified and still have something left over for other toys.  The classified is kinda steep but has great potential for tweaking.  And it looks cool.

At this time BFG is having some quality problems so I would go with EVGA for the vid card.  

It looks like a high end gaming machine and spare no expense for the graphics card.  260-216 cards in sli will be close in performance to a single 295 and about a hundred bucks cheaper.

What cooler are you going to use for the CPU?  Noctua makes really good coolers.  I have one on my Q6600 and no problems.

You have a lot of great choices there (raptors are not loud to me) and there are a ton of options.  Just my opinion.  Hope it helps in some way.

Both configurations look great and you will likely be happy with either.  I am, personally, and intel person.  I have built AMD systems and like that you get a lot of horsepower for less money comparatively to intel.  But in the end, I prefer intel because 1) it is the standard, 2) tend to run cooler than the AMD processors and 3) better overheat response.

AMD has carved out a niche in the market so unless the company is horribly mismanaged, they are not going anywhere.

Customer dissatisfaction is about the same for the intel side as it is with AMD, so I don't think that is a major decision factor.

What it comes down to is, ultimately, what you are wanting and what you will be happy with.  IN my recent upgrade of my systems here, I went all intel because I like them but also because it is more cost effective for me to be on the same standard (intel).

I do agree with Durden too.  If your rig is a gaming rig, then you need to put a good chunk into the video card(s).  That doesn't mean skimp on the CPU or RAM, but it does mean that if you have a good video solution, you can spend a lot less on the cpu & ram.  However, if you are like me and only build/upgrade every so often, the get everything you can when you can.

I know this may not be the most help, but either way you listed a good set of components and will have an awesome system regardless.  If you are happy, have at it.  Neither configuration should dissappoint.

the Asus p6t deluxe v2 is said to be really sweet. You might compare that with the Gigabyte brand. Tom's hardware and anatech among others have stated the Asus mobos are better for oc'ing and provide excellent top performance. It won't be long that the i7 quads will be lacking against the yet-to-be octocores that are to begin in Nov or soon thereafter. I doubt you want to wait for it. I'm sure the price would be a bit higher (and I realize the price isn't an issue).
the black editions are nice, but Intel is the best. Smacky is right. Do what makes you happy. You only live once in the life (as far as I know).
