Nam,

My first question would be are you happy with Vista? If so no real need to upgrade the OS.

Next yes you can upgrade Vista, but it is highly recommended to do a reformat and a full install.

Yes Win 7 should run Xp and vista games

Win 7 like Vista comes in 2 flavors 32 and 64 bit. No real reason to go 64bit unless you
want to use more than 4 gig of Ram, thats all the 32 bit will recognize. Still as of today
as far as I know there are no 64 bit applications yet. As far as game speed I have seen
reviews comparing 32 vs 64 bit, some were a bit faster on 32 others a bit faster on 64.

I currently run Vista 64 home version ( got it for 15.00) I have alot of stuff turned off
because I use this OS only for Gaming. I have another bootable drive that I still
use win2000pro on for my home banking, internet ect.

I will upgrade to win7 ONLY because soon I will be able to buy it through my company
for 10.00 and thats the only reason. I may install a 3rd bootable drive to put this on to see if I even want to keep it.

Bottom Line if your happy with Vista save your money. Now if you still want win 7
you can do a full install with an upgrade version( upgrade version is cheaper).
I can send a link if need it with instructions on how to do this.

My vist64 is an upgrade disk, but I did a full install with it. And its all legal.

Hmm so basically im going to have to disagree with falcon :P

To me comparing vista and windows 7 is pretty much like comparing day and night;

Window7 compared to vista KILLS it in every performance aspect; The UAC is actually USEFUL and doesn't slow your computer down.

Windows 7 to me, compared to vista is OVERALL better by 50% than Vista in terms of being more compatible with older programs and its ability to use less resources

Wannab,

You are correct, except if  everyting is working fine why change. I run vista
also,  games run great,  no problems with programs and no blue screen of death.

So if it aint broke dont fix it. Also this isnt just my opinion search the net
you will find the same answer. For some of us Win7 might be better, but our vista
is causing no problems, especially to shell out what $150.00 for ( that would buy a nice vid card)
or more ram. Which would be more beneficial.

But its everyones choice just my 2 cents.

I saw comparisons done on gaming w Vist vs Win7. I saw little difference. You can find them all over the internet. In many cases the games ran better on Vista.

It is one of those things you could easily go either way on. I have both operating systems and I've had trouble with installing a clean copy on both, but I am one of those unique one in a million people that gets lemons. I'd say if you're happy with Vista I'd stick with it. Whatever trips your trigger will work.
I don't utilize a big portion of the capabilities but I think windows 7 should have been a free service pack. It's quite a Microsoft scheme to generate money. Good for them, I'd say, if you want to give them money.

well the only problem with that wesley is its a complete new code; basically for them to do that they would basically make you install a new OS ^_^

The code in Win7 was designed to become more versatile to a persons need than any other Microsoft OS in the past; If you REALLY want to compare OS's such as millennium lmao

I run XP at work, Vista on my laptop, and Windows 7 on my home computer.  Out of the three for home use I would say Windows 7, I have been very happy.  I have not had game crashes like I did with Vista.  Although I never have a problem at work with XP either.  I compare Vista with Windows ME.
