I hate them.  Seriously.  I've been having an issue with COD4 where when I start it up I just get a black screen with audio.  None of the fixes I found worked.  So lastnight I reinstalled windows and set my system up again.  Today I go to play COD4 and the same exact thing is happening.  But not just for COD4, WAW was having the issue as well.  I messed with DirectX and my Nvidia drivers but to no avail.  So here I sit again going through the reinstall process.  Only this time I will first install all the basic stuff I need to get my games running and work from there.  See ya when I get everything going.

I may plug my headset into this pc for TS, otherwise I will probably just sit and watch some Hulu while I wait.

I start up w@w and it just goes to black for a moment or two and does it several times after I alt + cntrl + del and close the process tree.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

DxDiag spits out OK results, so i am at a loss for a result.  If you didn't know Cappr, I run four computers here so I am going to setup one of my laptops with a lot of the extra stuff I was doing on my main pc.  I'm thinking the issue might be with some codecs/media center stuff I use since dx, c++, and my video card drivers don't appear to be what's wrong.

I just got windows up and running.  Installed the latest beta Nvidia drivers, and am installing WAW now.  Other stuff I guess will come one at a time.

Well, nothing on here but Directx and the nvidia drivers and I am just getting the black screen.  Gonna try some old drivers now.

I forgot to point out that it's ONLY happening with COD4 and WAW.  I tested both MW2 and L4D2 and they worked just fine.

I run winders XPPro and I get a black screen about 1 outa 5 fresh starts which requires a process kill. I also get real slow starts 3 outa 5 of those fresh starts and that leaves me 1 clean start up out of 5. I notice that when COD 5 is running, its using about 350,000k roughly of memory. But when it hangs in black-screen or minimizes, it's using over 450,000k, not that much more when you think about it, but, maybe enough to hang it. I read an article on BK forums about releasing the 2nd processor by tweeking registry files for vindahs 7. Maybe try that as well, if you have a duo core, the extra processing boost might help.

I ran COD 5 on my machine with RC version 7 Ultimate and didn't like the choppy play. Of course I was using a beta OS, Nvida video and Creative audio drivers, which might have been the problem, but I did no testing. On one day and hated it so, off the next.

It appears I have found a solution.  Not exactly sure what is causing it but if I create a shortcut on the desktop and add this line to the end of the "target", it lets me load it up.

+seta r_mode "1920x1080" +seta r_displayRefresh "60 Hz"
