Here's some feedback for anyone in the future that is researching headsets.  Let me share with you a little of my experience.

If you opt for the SteelSeries 5H v2 make sure you get the model that comes with the external sound card and USB connector. The one I ordered did not come with it. It plugged directly via 2 analog jacks into the speaker out (Green) and the Mic in (Red/Pink) sound card I/O ports. The mic worked fine, however, the volume in the headset was middle of the road, at best.  (Maxwell Smart, I confirmed that there is 2 models; one with and one without the sound card. On Amazon, there was less than $10 to get the one with the ext sound card and USB connector). I've returned the SteelSeries to Amazon.

I ended up purchasing the Tritton AX51 Pro that has 4- analog jacks that plug into my onboard sound card for true surround sound. The headset has 8-built in speakers (4 in each side). This one is optimized for PC Gaming, although it did appear that it would connect to an XBox.

The price for both headsets was within $5 of each other.

Thanks to you all for your feedback, especially Maxwell Smart and Ted100 who spent some time with me last night on TS going through options and tweaking my Realtek software.
