After trying everything else it was recommended to me that perhaps my router was dropping out for a split second causing internet loss. I tried the UPS (which I had on hand anyway) and I haven't lost the internet since.

So for anyone losing the internet this might be something to consider. Maybe this info will help someone that is pulling his hair out like what I went through. By the way, the problem started the day the ISP increased my service to 50 Mbps down and 5 up. Before I hadn't needed to reboot my modem and router for several months.

That's interesting. Until recently I kept an IP address for around 6-8 weeks; now my SP seems to force a reset every few days - occasionally in the middle of a gaming session ;-(

I think I'll put my router on UPS.

Sure has me thinking, as I relocated my computer away from the room I have my broadband enter the house with my router.  The UPS went with the computer and I have had several network issues since . . . hmmm.  Coincidence?  I will look into getting a second UPS for that room.  I am a big fan of APC Back-UPS RS 1500s.

Modems and routers are more sensitive to a voltage drop than the computer itself couse the computer has a regulated power suply. UPS is doing that for all devices connected to it so if a voltage drops for a split second modem or router will not feel that.
