ANZAC DAY AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

I am off  to the dawn service to commemorate the fallen soldiers of our country. I thought I would share this with my fellow BK members.

Excerpted from Wikipedia

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, whose soldiers were known as Anzacs. Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand This is a rare instance of two sovereign countries not only sharing the same remembrance day, but making reference to both countries in its name.

The Ode comes from For the Fallen, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binyon and was published in London in the Winnowing Fan; Poems of the Great War in 1914. The verse, which became the League Ode was already used in association with commemoration services in Australia in 1921

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”[
]

The Ode is then followed by the Last Post. It always bring a tear to my eyes and a lump to my throat.      Lest We Forget.

I have the utmost respect for any individual that has fought and paid the ultimate price for their beliefs no matter what country they are from

May they rest in peace

Well said Diggerbaz.
As a fellow Aussie, I've been to many dawn services in commemoration of the fallen.  To hear the guns of Fort Scratchley at the entrance to our harbour sound at the end of the last post is truly moving.
I know of no-one that can hear the last post after the reading of the ode and not get a tear in their eye.
I have had family members serve in both World Wars and am forever grateful for their sacrifice and that of their mates who never returned.
Prayers to all members of the armed forces serving overseas.
May we never forget them.
