Depends on where you will be.  But be warned : we pay some of the highest rates on the planet.  We have 3 large providers who have a stranglehold on the industry.

the plans that you are looking for are around 65-85$ a month i think rogers is the more expansive and Bell (the after service is no good) Telus i m with them i like it 500 min, txt unlimited,my 10, night and weekend unlimited (Night starts at 1700) Data 6gb.
Finally i think Shaw as phones too and other smaller companies like fido and others. are you going east or west?

Get google voice with what ever you use. It gives free text messaging between US and Canada.

My son is going to school in Burlington Ont,  this year and trying to get phone services for him.
I can add international phone and text for $30 for 200 text, $60 for 300mb, and $30 for 80 mins talk.
Plus on top of the $60 for service. $180 month.
