A week or so ago a few members were talking about military life and subsequently the food of military life: MREs. It was mentioned that these are no longer available to the civilian world and that besides a possible surplus store, there was really no way to get them. Well here is my request: does anyone know where these can be found? Online or otherwise. I'm curious as I just ran out today. For those of you who don't know what these are (very few don't I'm assuming), here is a picture of what was left of mine before my brother came over and raided my house. Thanks!

well J_Marley I am not sure where to purchase these  But one of the places that makes and packages these is about 6 miles from my house.

When my son ETD he placed about 20 cases of these in my garage...When I was in the Army we had C- rations now try to find those Smile

The ones I had were actually good. When did they replace the processed cookies with real ones? The other ones tasted like chocolate covered cardboard.

Do they still have green eggs and ham?  The ham omelet?    The worse for me was the potatoes augratin think I emptied 6 or 7 baby tobasco bottles into one and could still taste it.

I once ate the omlette every meal for 3 days straight. The auggies and ham wasn't that bad if you remembered to take a bottle of Mrs. Dash out with you!

Try these sites for starters!
I am lucky and work with a guy in the National Guard. After his training deployments or where ever he takes off to, He comes back and offers me the ones he didn't eat (he's not a huge fan of them!). I sit down with all 6 kids and try to get them to eat some of it. Couple of them actually like them too!

Riv out...

I love MRE's... haven't had one that I haven't liked yet. I do have to admit, it's been many years since I have had one so it is quite possible they changed the recipes that I use to eat.  And what was wrong with the cardboard cookies??? Razz

LOL I think you all are nuts.  I guess the 6+ months of having to eat them with 1 sometimes 2 meals of t-rats a day ruined them for me.  I also remember the saw dust bar or "John Wayne bar" as some called them.  The crushed dried oatmeal bar that was near impossible to eat.  I've heard they've changed quite a bit, the last time I had one was going on 20 years ago.   Sheesh that makes me feel old.

Just a thought...do some still come with Charms?  Also, a fun note, the coolaid can set off the bio-chem sensors the Army uses.  I also don't recommend dipping the coffee..it's doesn't taste great and didn't seem to increase your caffeine intake.  Hehe.
