I have gone through heck getting the Game to work , so here is what I did.
First go into control panel and delete all of the old video driver's,  and I mean all of them. Just keep going in and get rid of them all until till your screen ends up at 600 x 800.
Then download the new vid driver and nothing else and install it.
Then download http://xtaticware.com/pbBF3.zip and extract it to the Battlfield3 directory, it will take care of itself.
Then download this, http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=23510
Once again make sure you open your ports it will makes a big difference. You will have to restart a lot so be patient and this will work. If you have trouble with any of this let me know and I will try to help. Have fun, FirstCav.

What is xtaticware?

What graphics card do you have? If it is ATI I have uninstall instructions which completely removes every file, folder and reg enter related to ATI, CC and drivers.

What is the Microsoft down load?
