Since the Tax Man was so nice to me, I decided to finish buying parts for my new computer.  Considering I had only previously purchased 16 Gb of RAM; I had a bit of a way to go.  The intent is to get back into BF3 and get me off of my laptop (which has served me well, but has it's drawbacks) for the majority of my gaming.  I figure this is a good start;  I'm already planning on adding another 6970 in a couple of months, as well as increasing my  HDD capacity.  Here is what I ended up with...

- AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX

- ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS

- Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (x2 in a RAID 0 Config/Win 7 and games)

- Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (Everything else)

- A spare Velociraptor 10000 RPM 30 GB drive (Solely for the Swap File)

- LG Black 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 10X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA 12X Super Multi Blue with 3D Playback & M-DISC Support WH12LS39 LightScribe Support - OEM

- A spare DVD/RW

- HIS IceQ H697QM2G2M Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

- COOLER MASTER Silent Pro RSA00-AMBAJ3-US 1000W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V v2.92 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

- ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

- Logitech G9X Programmable Laser Gaming Mouse with Precision Grips

- Logitech Gaming Keyboard G510

- ASUS VS248H-P Black 24" 2ms HDMI LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ASCR 50,000,000:1

- A spare Samsung 20" monitor as a secondary monitor

I believe I've done fairly well here.  I am still deciding on a case...I keep going back to the awesomely huge Coolermaster Cosmos II...hmmmm.  It's been a little over six years since I've done a new build, so any suggestions and all advice is welcome.

Nice build but hope you have a case that can cool that graphics card!

Neato. That card has a very nice cooler on it so I'm sure you'll be fine.

..Consider moving up to Eyefinity? (3 screens) It's pretty sweet. If you have no picked a particular DVD-RW drive, I have to suggest a Samsung drive. They've been the fastest and most reliable drives I've ever owned.. and I've burned through (har har) many DVD/CD writers.

Old rig? Turn it into a HTPC! Yes, I also tend to harp on about those.

Oh and get a CPU cooler and get overclocking. New CPUs are stupidly easy to OC these days. Stock coolers are always pretty lame, anyway.

I have an original Coolermaster CM Stacker I can use until I decide on a permanent case.  I think I will look into getting extra 24" screens in a few months.  I purchased a Zalman cooler.  I was thinking about investing in a water cooling rig, but I don't have any experience.

have a look at the Coolermaster HAF cases. They're huge and pretty well priced.
