Regarding Server Ban, to Whom it May Concern

I recently was banned from one of your BF3 servers ( http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/servers/show/02645e18-cee3-452d-acdf-66d4afdccd48/Polite-and-Friendly2-Conquest-www-PoliteandFriendly-com/  ) for using the word niggardly, described by the ban notice as a racial slur. I stated, "People could be more niggardly with all the offensive words," randomly in chat due to all the cursing being thrown around. I was shortly banned thereafter. Niggardly is not in anyway a racial slur.

Niggardly means - Reluctant to give; Reluctant to spend; stingy.
"The company was particularly niggardly with salaries";  "serving out the rations with a niggardly hand".

It is NOT a racial slur. From Wikipedia - "In the United States, there have been several controversies concerning the word "niggardly," an adjective meaning "stingy" or "miserly," due to its phonetic similarity to the racial slur "nigger." The two words are etymologically unrelated."

>>> "The two words are etymologically unrelated." <<<

I didn't do anything wrong, so please, unban me. I sent in a ticket and also made a post on the the Battlelog forums too.

I must admit that I had not heard of the word until reading the post on Battlelog, and on the surface the contruction of the word appears to have a racist overtone.
However, Infensive -ARITI has placed a strong argument that is supported by reference material. A search performed by myself affirms said argument, and may be corroborated by anyone taking the time to perform a similar search.
Interestingly, there is a Wikipedia article about controversies that have raged after the word has been used. It has been regarded as offensive by colored communities, largely based around their ignorance of the origin and use of the word (such ignorance shared by me).
I support the removal of the ban on Infeisive_ARITI, but would urge him to consider the use of less inflammatory words when playing on a server that prohibits the use of any speech that may be regarded as racist, insulting, abusive, sexually provocative etc.

Arete_Se7en I run BK and the Polite and Friendly servers. The word you used is considered by many people as very inappropriate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_%22niggardly%22  [en.wikipedia.org]

My question to you is why use that word? I find it hard to believe you just randomly said "People could be more niggardly with all the offensive words," When other players where being warned for swearing.

Our admins are volunteers and do a great job donating their time to offer a fun server with simple rules.

Battlefield 3

Rule 1 - No Bunny Hopping!
This rule is to help promote server realism. Bunny hopping to avoid fire represents one thing you can do in a video game that you would not do under normal circumstances in wartime. You would not REPEATEDLY jump when under fire or around a blind corner.

Rule 2 - Team kills
As you already know friendly fire is enabled on our server. You don`t have to apologize for the team kill but we would like you to. Intentional team killing and name calling because you where team killed WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

Rule 3 - Swearing, Racism, and Disrespectful comments
We have a ZERO tolerance policy for racism on our game server and our Teamspeak server. You will be kicked after two warning for swearing when the swearing is not directed toward a member, server, or team. Swearing and disrespectful comments towards any player (guest, -BK-, ) will result in a kick/ban with the length differing depending on the severity. Racism is a permanent ban.

-Camping is allowed on our server. -We allow ALL weapons and perks on our servers.

My question is why did you say what you did when admins where enforcing the no swearing rule?

You can always PM me threw the website or use the ticket system on our site www.PoliteandFriendly.com but I ask you to give us a day to get back to you as we are all volunteers and have jobs and families that need out time.

I must stand by Flanno. I do not think that the word is racist. Folks may take it as such, but that is not the fact. Just because someone or people in general do not know the english language, is no reason to ban someone. Specially since it was not meant in the racist manor.
Could it be that some of our admins are getting a little too touchy with the language warnings? I have seen people banned for words that are not really offiensive nor dirty. Maybe its time we take a look into this topic at a meeting.
I do believe that Arete Seven should have his ban lifted, as he points out that the word is not racist in anyway. Also the sites you posted Luke do the same.
People seem to quick to just about things they do not know about.
