wow.  That reminds me of when my dad passed away a year ago.  Here is the story
My dad passed away a year ago on may 9.  My wife birthday was on the 31st of may.  We had a friend living with us.  She went out the front door and there was a vase of roses, gallon of choclate milk,and a gift cerificate for a body massage.  My wife always took my dad up to the U for cancer treatments and they had talked about a lot of stuff.  all this stuff went along wtih the conversation.  With the gift was a had written not with a poem about me a great mother and it was signed john which is my dads name.   We never figured out who sent it or how it got there.  There wasn' any tag from a florist or anything.  we have never figured out who did it.  The writing in the card was my dads.  We compared some writings of his before he passed away.  We asked all the family members if they had anything to do with it and they said no that hadn't.  We just chalked it up to the good lord and his mysterious ways

It could have been your dad. I am not a firm believer, but I have heard of similar stories from people I was dispatched to see regarding a cruel hoax (same idea). There was no signs of forced entry, no identifiers, but the wife asked the husband when he started wearing Old Spice cologne. She could smell it. Her deceased relative wore it. Sometimes the spirit is tightly connected they do stay and watch over you is the explanation a spiritualist gave us. This family had three or four such encounters.
