The Navy Chief noticed a new seaman and barked at him "Get over here! - Whats youre name sailor?"
"John" the new seaman replied.
"Look, I dont know what kind of bleeding heart, pansy nonsence (sensored!) they're teaching in boot camp these days, but I dont call anyone by their 1st name", the Chief scowled. "It beaks familiarity, and that leads to a breakdown in authority!"
"I refer to my sailors by their last names only, and you refer to me as "Cheif", got it!?"
"Aye, Aye Chief"
"Now that we've got that clear, what is your last name?"
The seaman sighed, "Darling. My name is John Daring, Chief"
"Right John, here is what I want you to do............."
