While I do play other genres of games, I still find that the best storylines come in FPS games...and some of these come in a blend of FPS/RPG...sure you have your Sci-Fi shooters and your Modern times shooters, but I still tend to lean towards WWII and post-apocalyptic as my favorites...yes zombie killing is fun too but there's something to the single player campaigns of the WWII & post-apocalyptic ones, be they based on actual events or perhaps possible future ones that intrigue me...
Playing WWII based ones gives me a chance of sorts to be there in the battles that my granfather and great uncles faced...but as for post-apocalyptic shooters such as the incredibly well done (at least in my eyes) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, the equally well done Fallout series, and of course Metro 2033, I not only get to explore that "what if" scenario, I get to explore it all in glorious First Person...many of my friends will tell you, when I explore I explore...just walking up to an abandoned building and seeing the detail of a broken, charred cabinet as well as checking out what may be inside of it is not only satisfying, but the person who created that cabinet that many would probably overlook can sleep at night knowing that "hey, someone probably did see my work"...
I've probably played the aforementioned games at least 1/2 a dozen to a dozen times or more...and today I got a first glimpse of what's to comes with what looks to be an incredible sequel to Metro...that being Metro: Last Light...
Metro: Last Light
THQ has been talking about a follow-up to 4A Games' postapocalyptic shooter Metro 2033 since last June, but only just now is the publisher beginning to open up about the title. Today, THQ officially announced Metro: Last Light, saying the follow-up to Metro 2033 will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2012.
As 2034 dawns, Earth remains in a sad state of affairs.
Though initially operating under the working name Metro 2034, the game's Last Light subtitle was unearthed by Superannuation last month. However, as the working title suggested, Metro: Last Light will be set during the year 2034. With mutants lurking the subway catacombs following a postapocalyptic disaster, humanity finds itself waging war against itself to gain control of a doomsday device that could end life forever.
Gamers will once again be afforded a variety of improvised weapons to fend off the mutant hordes and rival Metro factions. However, firearms and ammunition will be scarce, as the game emphasizes both survival horror and first-person shooter gameplay. Beyond its single-player mode, Metro: Last Light will also incorporate a competitive multiplayer mode set within the game's subway catacombs.
Here's a link to the article...it's the same as I wrote above but there's a really cool teaser video that was done using concept art to tell the tale...
