Yes the game resets some stuff when it loads. However I had it running in read only for a while, didn't seem to do much except I couldn't rename any of my kits. Wouldn't hurt to test it out.
A full system restore is definitely a last ditch effort to fix the issues. I am certain the problem was still with BO, and it caused issues elsewhere.
PD Blue you should also know that you don't need a third party firewall installed. Windows 7 firewall is on by default. Also, if you are running through a router that has a built in firewall as well. Personally I really don't think people need any type of firewall on newer operating systems as long as they have a decent AV installed. The computer sitting to the right of me has Windows firewall disabled and is in DMZ mode. It has Avast free edition running and I have zero problems. As long as you keep Windows up to date the odds of something happening are nearly zero. As long as you aren't downloading things you possibly shouldn't be or with obvious names like britney_spears_naked.jpg.exe you won't have any issues.
