The 5850.  Saves you over $100 compared to the 5870 and should overclock nicely.  You can compare different manufacturers on that if you need to.  I'd stay away from the 6800 series.  Seems to me to be more of a step backwards and sideways compared to the 5800 series.

You could also buy two 5830's/50's for a crossfire setup.  Or one 5830 and one 5850 for a mixed crossfire setup.  I am more than happy with my 5830 and will eventually buy another or a 5850 depending on price.  Depending on where you live waiting until this Friday might be a smart choice as far as finding deals goes.

2 5850's would be crossfire, and I think it would be worth it. I'm still sporting 2 outdated 8800GTX boards and I need both to run BFBC2. It's unplayable without  my SLI setup. Heat management would be my only concern. You gotta be sure to have enough airflow around those cards, although I think ATI/AMD cards are better than Nvidia at power management.

In terms of power management they are about the same; Its the power that is loss that creates heat that nvidia has a problem with ( nvidia has almost but solved that with the 500 series )

As for buying a card, i would wait a couple months if its not needed asap. The 6000 series so far is just the "lower" end cards for the series. The higher end cards are due out at any time which will make the prices of the older cards drop/skyrocket depending on which card you wanted.

When picking cards always think about the future. Do you plan to crossfire in the future?

Also do you dual boot non-windows OS? AMD tends to completely drop the ball when its comes to anything but windows.

Also check out some of nvidia's cards, they have come down in price.

Im currently running a single GTX 260 and it runs BC2, WAW and BO with no problems at all.  Last night I fired up dual FirePro V5800 w/ crossfire and I noticed a lower performance difference with them.  The GTX 260 is good for me right now.  I dont think there is any reason to upgrade from that right now.

that'S it WannaB.....in december or jan. comes the new cayman card and the pricees will drop.
i don't have the money for a highend card ...i think 170bucks are ok but not more....
my second son will be born in december and i have to save a bit money....also Xmas is comming and my wife needs some new earrings^^

Go for the best and get the new GTX 580 series video cards. Plan on getting one soon.......................

If you really want the best wait till Kepler comes out its about 40 times faster than the 480.

Of course its not due out till 2012 but still... the test cards are omg
