....steam did the up-date (OR SHOULD I SAY UP-GLICH)....Now when I press play, it says ERROR 256 stringable assets exceded....I have no idea what that means,much less fix it..

Error 256 as it pertains to applications means there is a file corruption issue. You may need to reinstall Black Ops.

But honestly, the first thing I would do is install and run the program called "Malwarebytes". This is a free download from malwarebytes.org

Next, I would suggest doing a full virus scan. I prefer to use Microsoft Essentials as it seems to catch more stuff from what I have seen.

If none of that helps, do the reinstall of the game. I know it is a pain in the butt doing a reinstall, but that in my opinion may be the only way to fix the issue.

I  read what erorr 256 was. Then I did what you sugested before coming here, I did a reinstall that fixed it.......THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY.............

Just for future reference, not sure it would work, but you can go to steam then games;  right click on BO multi then select properties. In one of the tabs there is an option to "verify game files". This might fix any BO files that are messed up without having to do a complete reinstall.
