Ok, I don't know why this happens....I have word documents saved on my computer on a few back up drives. I recently went to go into them and they are now .CTS files. What could cause this and why?
I found that if I download and run Crazy Talk software, I can access them, well, from what I read on the internet, which now I find out, don't work....any ideas?

First I have heard of spontaneous file conversion. Are they in fact now "sound" files? Have you attempted to simply change the file extension back to DOC? To configure your file explorer window to display the file extension simply hit the ALT key to show the TOOLS menu. Select Folder Options / the View Tab / then uncheck hide extensions for known file types. Sorry you are having this issue.

If you have an original file then compare the actual byte size with an altered file. If they are the same, then something changed the extension as Apostle suggested.
If they are different, then possibly a Trojan virus attaching itself to word files (incorrectly) and waiting to run when you try to open the file.
