Hey guys, just got back home after being on the road for five weeks, and when I boot up my Black Ops game my pings are in the 700-800s.

I have rebooted the CPU and still getting the same issues.  Any suggestions?

Check your config file I have had issues were some of my settings that I adjusted have reset to default values on me. Also there have been several steam updates as well as the new map pack and updates to the game, you might check to make sure you auto update is not turned off or update it manually.

\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players\

I've found that for some reason, I get better pings when my computer is uploading a bit - when i keep my HTPC connection capped at 20-30 kbps, I'm almost always at 40ms-80ms. When no uploads are going, it often goes a little over 100. I've foud this is the case for most any MP game.

I've only ever had a single file in that folder - config_mp.cfg, which can be edit with wordpad, notepad, etc.

Be sure to back ii up before editing.

Are you using a touter? Are there others in your domicile that may have changed something? How are pings in other games? Have you tried pinging an address like  www.google.com? Have you tried doing a speed test, either through your ISP (which wlil give max. speeds), or a site liek speedtes.net (which gives a more realistic, practical speed result)

A couple months ago i had n;t tightened the coaxial cable coming into my modem enough, adn my pings woudl jump up to 500+ quite often. Tightenignit resolved the problem.

If speedtests, website pings, etc. still give poor results, I'd suggest calling your ISP.

Look in the Black Ops section of the forum and the sticky for increasing BO performance or something to that effect. It has all the changes that help increase performance. I finally printed it out so I didnt have to keep going back to find it.

Well, what finally did it was buying and downloading "SpeedUpMyPC 2011".  I did that after running the speed test and failing it badly.  Hope this is not a solution that comes back to haunt me and wasting $30.

I use a couple programs to keep my pc free of bad stuff as well as gameboost to turn unwanted programs off during play. I havent had a virus etc effect my computer since and the only time I have issues is when my isp does or a mechanical issue. To me putting a little money toward these programs (virus and system monitors) has been worth it. I do change the programs from time to time based on advise from others who know more than me or because I like the newer versions. So I would say it is worth it long as its a good program. Have to leave that opinion to others as I have never used that one.
