DICE Says ‘All Games Ship With Small Bugs’, Sad But True

This bit of candid info came courtesy of Battlefield 3 executive  producer Patrick Bach during a larger interview with the Wall Street Journal. Bach was quoted as saying that in the production of games developers ignore certain bugs.

Just fixing bugs doesn’t make a great game. All games ship with small bugs that developers more or less deliberately have chosen to ignore. The big question is which bugs you choose to fix.

I think its sad but true with only so many people working on the game what do you fix first. People falling threw a map or glitches with the motion of people crawling on the ground. With that said I think this is one of the best betas I have seen. They have bout 3 weeks to fix the issues in the beta and I think day one should go smoothly like MOH did.

lol... makes me wonder how bad it will be on release if he actually admits that when noone else will...dont you know all games are perfect outta the box

its not the game...pick one or more:
1.. its your rig
2..its your isp
3..its a node between you and the server
4.. its your game servers fault

LOL

IF BC2 is any indicator, BF3 will get good, useful updates on a regular basis. Heck, a BC2 update was just released a week or two ago. And I'm sure there will be a release day update.

I only played for an hour or so, but the only major bug i noticed was folks sinking into the ground when they prone, and the mouse cursor vanishing while binding keys. And a bunch of tiny bugs, too. While using triple-screen, much of the HUD doesn't show, such as the ammo count and mini-map. But BC2 has excellent multi-monitor support, so I expect the same with the final release of BF3.

I can't imagine this NOT being true.  With so many programming variables, rig configurations and 3rd party software headaches, the fact that the beta runs as well as it does is a credit to DICE.  I don't expect a perfect game on launch day, but I'm sure that EA and DICE will work to fix any issues quickly and well.

I'm excited for the full release and can't wait to play it!

Working for a software company probably makes me less demanding/more understanding of games than some people who post complaints with Caps Lock on.  Still, I definitely think BF3 is of great quality and makes every other FPS pale in comparison (including the MW3 information currently available).  I'm loving this game, even with the current issues.  I'm really looking forward to playing it on a BK server with the rest of you.
