So apparently there have been times when 12 million Simultaneous players were in the beta... this is six times as many people as played the Bad Company 2 beta.
Also, they confirmed that this is an old build of the user end game that everyone is playing, and most of the glitches that people are seeing will, indeed already HAVE been resolved for the actual games' launch. The beta was to test the new server-side back end that they created for BF3, and based on my experience, I'd say its pretty solid. I think I only got a single server disconnect the whole first weekend.
anyways, here's the full IGN article:

I agree, the fluidity in which the game runs as far as their back end is concerned is amazing, I have had no issues while running the game at all, unlike Black Ops, I couldn't play for the first two weeks. As of yet on the PC (about 15 hours), I had no disconnects at all, I have had several on the PS3 (about 2 hours) though.

I've had once where my screen froze and I had to hard reset my computer. I've also heard a lot of other people complaining about their game crashing to the desktop. But as a beta I think it's gone really well. I am also surprised that it runs on my Nvidia 260M. Although I bet the game will be more demanding once it comes out. I know my low fps has accounted for many of my deaths..

remember Orck, this is an old build of the game on the user side, and the beta wasn't testing for that at all.

Update to the article:
In an earlier report, we sourced a figure of 12 million players published by VG247. This figure is incorrect, as Troedsson is referring to the number of simultaneous players, not total players. The exact number of players in the beta has not been released.
