Chat Binds with a regular keyboard.

After a lot of hit-and-miss, I finally found how to bind Chat text in-game, without the need for a macro keyboard... After getting killed too often typing them out manually for players asking for our rules.

Open \Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players\config_mp.cfg with any text editor. I prefer Notepad++, and a new line as such:

bind X "say \"insert text here\""   - Yes, that's two quotation marks at the end.

This is the set that I use:

bind 7 "say \"^1****^3This is a ^2CROUCH TO MOVE ^3server. Crouch to move at all times.\""
bind 8 "say \"^1****^3Running from direct fire to cover allowed. Camping, and STANDING to shoot is allowed.\""
bind 9 "say \"^1****^3All weapons & perks allowed. No bunny-hopping. No intentional Team-Killing.\""
bind 0 "say \"^1****^3No Disrespectful or Foul Language - this includes Comments, Names, and Playercards.\""

Adding color to you binds:

To display the word "color" in red, you should write :

^1color

^1 RED
^2 GREEN
^3 YELLOW
^4 BLUE
^5 TEAL
^6 PINK
^7 WHITE
^8 GREY
^9 BROWN
^0 BLACK
^@ BROWN-ORANGE
^= LIGHTER BLUE
^; DARKER GREEN
^: DARKER RED
^> LIGHTER GREY
^< ORANGE
^? PURPLE

I responded to your PM. Just tap whatever key you bind it to, as with any other control.

Ok, this is very similar to another thread I was about to check updates on regarding standard texting of rules in-game for Bops. I'm going to configure my key binds as you have done, same colours, same texts. This is the start of standardization that will make he server more professional and give guests the feeling that they have come to a professional server (which, indeed it is) and give them the feeling that it is administered by dedicated players, enforcing one set of rules that are to be abided by and hopefully bringing them back time after time if they feel crouch servers are the way they wish to play.
I encourage all others using macros to display server rules in-game to follow siut, unless told otherwise.....

Good going Abram, and nice tip on key binds, thank you.

Ok, I tried this. And WOW!! That's a whole load of spaghetti in that file! I copied your text above and pasted it into the file, at the end, but didn't get it to work. Then I studied the file a while and pasted it into a "logical place", taking care to delete spaces before the word bind, as in keeping with the structure of the file, but still no joy. Could you post text that we others can just copy from the forum and paste into that file? A screenshot of your file would be kudos! If it still doesn't work, I might ask you to upload your file so I can download and replace mine, then re-map my personal key bindings. I guess that'd work?

Here is my entire config_mp.cfg:  Click me.

You can certainly replace the bind section, if you wish.

Try Wordpad instead. Or download Notepad++, which I far prefer.

PS - also added more colors to initial post.
