Have a question....I bought a new card, the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 2Win 2048 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 3DVI/Mini-HDMI Graphics Card, 02G-P3-1387-KR, won't work with my mother board, they said my 3 year old mother board is to old and thats why this card won't work, if i play with it long enough i can get it to come on once every 20 or 30 times...but my question is, what is a good card to get, going to put this one on a shelf, and just get a new one, is there a good card I can get for around 200.00, the wife will get mad, but I am going to sneak in another one..lol
my system right now is an intel i7, 920, 2.67 6gig ram, 64-bit operating system

found it, my mother board is an msi x58 platinum, I have a thermaltake tr2 rx-850 power supply...I get 3 beeps on start up, and then nothing.....thanks for any help

It is possible there is something wrong with the card. I would return it or exchange it if possible.

they wont take it back, let my daughters boy friend take it to best buy, where he works, the techs there said the card started up fine for them...now its just a paper weight for me

That card will work fine in your rig. As long as you got the power hooked up right and the right drivers(note: dont use the drivers from the cd that came with it, instead download them from website) If you still need help grab me on TS or PM me.

The issue I believe is that motherboard only supports Crossfire, not SLI. Even though that is a single card it is basically "SLI on a card". I read something about EVGA offering a patch to help with this issue, but I do not see it on their driver download page and I am not sure if it would even help.
Ok, this is probably more trouble than it is worth and of course there is always the chance of screwing something up. You can read more about the SLI hacks at the websites below.

In my opinion, I would see if you can sell the card and pick up something more compatible with your motherboard.
One last edit. Their reason for why it won't work for you is a flat out lie. They just don't know what they are talking about and refuse to do any research on the subject. That's like saying your car won't start because the tires are bald.
Ok I lied, one more edit. As far as purchasing another card in your price range. In a day or two I will be buying a Radeon HD 6870. IMO it is the most bang for your buck in the sub-200 dollar range. Others may have success elsewhere but I have been on an ATI kick lately. You can grab them for 150-200 on Newegg. Stay away from XFX cards. The MSI series of those cards are built pretty solid, though in my experience with their Hawk line of cards they don't overclock as much as I like. They do last forever though.

HD6870 is the "new" version of my HD5850 and there's nothing I can't play right now. i7-860, 8GB, Sapphire Toxic (overclocked) HD5850/1GB DDR5. I can run BF3 all high settings 50fps+ at 1920x1080. Good card, especially if you can get it under 200.
