Not really a system help, but I guess it could turn into that.

Just wanted a thread where people could post any ideas or links they are thinking about using for their next build.

I'm thinking my next one will be all white.

I wanna get a white case, and get the sabertooth z77 board and paint the thermal armor white, then have all white cables, get the h100 liquid cooler and maybe even paint it and other components partially white as well. then have icy blue leds/cathodes

would be cool to find a way to make the case window look like it's icing over.

Something like one of these for the edges of the case window too

As for the glass, you can get the adhesive take that is placed on windows for bathrooms.  It gives a fog/distorted effect.

As for the color of the case.  I dont care what my case looks like, current chassis is an old cool master that I have Frankensteined so much that its not even the original chassis anymore.  I figure it works and if it aint broke, why fix/change it.

well, Idk, I don't care for how small my current rig is
and I think i'm going to convert it into an HTPC
I do have a full tower sitting in the corner, but the vent is horrible.

I have access to a machine shop with everything I need to mod my chassis.

Which is why Im running a system with 7 fans including one liquid cooled CPU setup.

Well I can't not take an opportunity to tell you to check out XBMC for your HTPC.

I was planning on using xbmc
at first I was going to try running a raspberrypi, but why do that if I have a really good full computer

Thinking about Dual Xeon E5, C602 based system.

Maybe this board: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_2011/Z9PED8_WS/

It would be super expensive though, about $900 for mobo and 2 CPUs alone.

cool board, not sure if I'd be ready for the two cpu leap

on that sabertooth board i'm looking at, thought it would be cool to take off that thermal armor and paint it, but not sure what paint would be best like model paint? some kind of pearl white. and maybe use car radiator paint to paint that northbridge heatsink something solid black or white...

From personal experience, I can say a 2 CPU board is not a good mix for gaming.  Most of us do a good job of monitoring our system resources as we play out games.  How much memory is being used and how hard our cores are getting hit and as Ive seen it, the games today dont take advantage of all the cores we have now.

So lets skip forward to a multi CPU unit.  These are the type of systems I work with day in and day out and if you are looking for horse power to run AutoCAD, Maya, PTC produces, then this is the way you wanna go.  As for gaming.  Not a good match.  You will actually see lower gaming performance with a multi CPU rig.

Just my 2 cents.

Well so far I know my case and motherboard.

I will probably get a new SSD, for this build, and leave my current one in my current pc for a conversion to HTPC, probably my current mechanical drive too.  but that's another project.

OR

Still no clue on what vid card, or memory, and really no idea about what CPU i'll get, probably something ivy bridge lol.

thinking of using the Corsair h100 for cpu, and maybe the
ARCTIC Accelero Hybrid AIO Video Card Cooler to watercool my vid card idk.

also, wanna try to paint that plastic "thermal armor" on the sabertooth motherboard a white. just don't know what kind of paint would be best. someone suggested plastidip, but that makes kind of a rubber covering.
