A reminder on Tk apologies.

Just so there's no confusion: We do NOT have any rule that requires a player to apologise for a TeamKill. Over the past few months I've been seeing a lot of chatter of members and guests telling our players that they have to type out apologies if they TK. Sometimes these requests are followed by a slight threat of punishment. This is spelled out clearly on our Rules/FAQS page

Yes, apologies are always nice and appreciated, and they generally provide greater evidence that a particular TK was not intentional. But by our rules we cannot punish for a lack of an apology. If someone TKs intentionally, chances are pretty good that they will continue to do it, in which case our members can make a judgment call about giving a warning.

I'm not trying to say that I think a rule requiring a TK apology isn't a bad idea, though. Most servers do have this rule, and it seems to serve players well. It also seems to make players a little more cautious in the future. But a change like that is another discussion, altogether.

I should also add that this is the case for all games - I'm just seeing seeing it a lot in W@W.

Abram, there does seems to be an increase in BK members asking for TK apologies and hopefully your bring attention to the policy will bring that to an end. Good job!

This is what i usually say in that situation "while there is no rule for apologizing for tk's, it is the polite and friendly thing to do."

Good post Abram.

Shouldn't have to be a rule. Lead by example , I always apologize for a TK. The rest will get the drift.

One bitty bump.

Still seeing members saying that folks have to apologise.  Please, you regular W@W players let them know, or send a PM or something.

It's easy to apologise in TS but agree that typing in-game shows everyone else that it wasn't deliberate.

Sometimes I wish it was a rule - just because it's hard to know when someone is deliberately TKing or just has terrible aim. I've had regular players who repeatedly tk - and I've warned them through badkon only to get an angry "It's not deliberate!" If they apologized, it would be easier to know if it was an accident. MOST players on our servers do apologize (I ALWAYS do - because I really AM sorry) - but I have to say that the serial "no apology" players grate on my nerves a bit. Still - it's not a rule so I bite my tongue until they do it enough for a deliberate TK warning.

Very well put Helen, perhaps this issue does need a formal review and potentially a new ruling made. I'm always offering an apology for TK's simply because its a polite thing to do, but as its not a rule that an apology MUST be given i'll watch to see if a player is repeatedly team killing and then start the warnings. Once is an accident, twice maybe an accident, repeated likely not.
