Need some help

Looks like I may be AFK for while. Went to fire up my computer last night and play but my computer didn't want to.
While booting up it asks to if I want to start up in Normal or Safe mode etc. Once it does boot up it really won't do anything. I tried a restore but nothing changes. Nothing will open up and the hour glass just comes up and sits there.

Any suggestions???

When it asks you to boot normal or in safe mode, which one do you click?

I've tried both and can't get anything to work after the home screen loads.

if you have a os on a disc like windows commander or knoppix you could load that an run anti-virus etc and try fixing the problem

or if you have another pc you can try hooking the hdd from the broken system to that one via external housing and try fixing it, if not able to fix atleast lets you get any files you want to save eg pic, save games etc

but for me the best and easies option is to wipe and re-install fresh and load anything you need from a backup (if you don't have a backup try method 2 part two)

I would try a windows 7 boot disk, which may help repair the OS.

I do have another computer but I don't know enough about that sort of stufff, in order to fix any problem. In safe mode I've been poking around and looks like something didn't close properly? I'm just going through the event logs and found that. I'm running VIsta 64 bit so don't have windows 7. I was able to copy and past all my contacts,  pictues and documents to my external HD but can't export the emails for some reason.
Although you can never rule it out, I don't think it's a virus. I keep my anti-virus up to date and run full scans once a week. I also don't download anything from the net or open strange emails etc. nor do I surf strange web sites.
The last thing I remember doing that day was updating Steam. Hmmmmm............?

you may have a virus or you need to do some updates of you have that done and still have the issue well then you may need to wipe out the comp. and start all over from nothing

Don't think you can get up-dates for Vista now. Not supported.

Poked around with it for a while then decided it was time to upgrade anyway. So I took it back to the place that built it and had them sort it out. Turns out it was a type of malware that had been there since August 2010 and just decided to crap. Spoke to the tech and he said he could clean it right out no problem.
So tomorrow the Ram gets kicked up from 6gigs to 12 or more gigs. Then I'm either going to add a 2nd video card or get one huge one.
May have to order the card but the ram will be in and I should be back online tomorrow night.

Thanks for the advice. I will follow up with more detail when I get it.

Also going to upgrade the OS too. The tech said Windows 8 sucks and that I should wait for windows 8.1 in a few month.........or use Windows 7.

Getting Fista off your PC would be a pretty good idea, too.

I hear that but I've never had a problem with the 64 bit. From what I do hear is that if you tinker with it then you stoart to have problems. I've never messed with it so maybe that's why.

Have you tried a boot time defrag and or malware remover? Windows 7 is great, I have no problems with my vista but I run 7 on a few of my laptops. I fix computers so if you want take a couple pics with phone or something and e-mail them to me. What it does when you start it up.

Thanks for the help guys. Got it sorted out and it looks like there was an old malware or Trojan lurking in my computer from August 2010. All cleared out now and seems to be working great. Also decided to update and get a new video card and more Ram. Bumping it up to 12 Gigs of Ram and getting a ASUS 3GB GForce 660Ti card. Should be good enough to check my email. Smile
