It’s get a new rig time again.

Right now I have my old computer (4 gig, dual-core, old graphic card) – it plays WaW and Black Ops well.  Meanwhile my wife has the super rig for her photo’s (16 gig, quad-core, nice graphic card). She uses it for her photoshop/lightroom work. However, BF4 didn’t play on my rig so I had to install it on hers and that means I can only play when she is not working, which is like never. I usually have to sneak-up there when she is sleeping – frustrating.

So my choice is tear-apart my old box and build it out again. I could save some money doing it (about $300), but I would replace pretty much everything but the case and power supply. Also, my son who is 9 years old is starting to type, use the spread-sheet, and of course play MindCraft. He was playing WaW the other day, I told him to crouch, but he forgot and got kicked under my name (sorry guys).  Perhaps I should keep my old rig for him.

Do I really want to build again or should I buy?

This is what I was looking at and would like your thoughts.

CPU:  i5-4670k Haswell $239
Mobo: MSI Z87-G45 $159
Video: GeForce GTX 660 Ti (MSI) $309
Mem: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1866 $204
SSD: Crucial 256GB $299
Case, Power supply, fans, DVD/blue-ray, coolers, etc: $500
Total: $1600

Or

I could buy the Origin Chronos for $1900 with a warrantee and over-clocked.

It’s $300 more, but I don’t have to build it, worry about parts not working (which always seems to happen), and getting the hassle of the OS and drivers installed.

I have some xtra X-mass money coming so it wouldn’t hurt to step-up, the question is do I.

I need to stay under $2k that’s my cap.

I have been in the same boat.  I have built all of my previous computers...until the last one.  I got mine from CyberPower and have been thankful ever since.  It was just as cheap, if not slightly cheaper than building my own.  PLUS, I have the warranty and support, which I now do NOT have to worry about.

Either way, it looks good, just depends on what you want to deal with or can handle...

I'm always a proponent of building your rig for yourself. You know exactly what's in there, how it's slapped together, and you get more satisfaction out of it.

The only thign Id' suggest changing is getting a newer generation GPU; both the Nvidia 770 and the AMD R9 280X are about the same price, and about the same speed. But being newer, they'll run cooler (on average) and take less power. And a cooler for that CPU, as they overclock very easily, and very well. And get some true surround headphones. Staying under 2 grand is a breeze. THough if you wish to get with TO that 2k budget, there are other things you can do.

I recommend an Asus Z87 board, their power/VRM is higher quality.

Also go for a latest gen card,  could go for the GTX 760 or R9 280X, the latter will probably play BF4 better.

For the SSD, go for a Samsung Evo Pro.
