As some of you know from a previous post of mine, I'm upgrading both my monitor and video card, but there will be about 1.5-2 months in between each purchase.

So I need help to decide which one I should purchase first.

Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB
Price w/ taxes: $245 Cad

Monitory: ASUS 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Price w/ taxes: $295 Cad

Video Card first...at least with your older monitor you will get the benefits of the card. You can always upgrade the monitor later.

What if I told you I had an 8800 GT with a measly 17 inch LCD monitor

That might be a different story, I have not compared the cards so I am not sure what kind of benefit the card will provide, but I would say video card first, I just bought a top notch awesome 24 Inch Monitor from Dell for 175....

Or get yourself a second 8800 so you can do SLI and then get the monitor, the second 8800 might not cost too much and you can get both!

sli? so much money for a hand full of FPS....i think sli is not the money worth.

i upgradet my videocard first. why? it does not help me ,when i have a big good monitor and i'm not able to fuel the monitor.
i do not know ,whats the highest resolution of your videocard ,support your old monitor the highest resolution?
a new videocard brings you also more FPS/AA 8x/AF 16x and a new monitor brings you ,with your 8800gt
ugly pixel?
hu my resolution is 1920x1200 (HD4870 1gb) on a  syncmaster T260
your new 48901g will rock!!

a wonderful woman without a brain isn't much good. who cooks for you or give you new socks/pants and a t-shirt?

first look for the brain ,then for the body! this is barley comprehensible for you guys right, what i typing in.
i know ...i'm crazy.

That is a monitor max setting, the 8800 can run well over that

so even if I buy the video card first I wont see any improvements other than an increase in my fps until I get a new monitor that supports a higher resolution. So that does it, I shall get a monitor first.

Don't upgrade just jet. Save your money and buy both at the same time. The price might even go down a bit or a new hardware could come out.
