I purchased Call of Duty Black Ops from the store.
However, I can't seem to add friends (or send invites) in the game or in steam community (when I click it - nothing happens).
So I searched around and it seems to say (from what I have found) that if I did NOT purchase the game through steam that I can NOT add friends. Is this correct?
I can log into Steam Community, updated my logo, joined BK group, and even received two invites. However when I push "Add Friend" or "Send message" NOTHING HAPPENS.
What am I doing wrong?
Please help - thanks...

Are you trying it from the Friends window? Your in game friends are listed from your Steam account. So you need to make sure you are trying to send or accept friends from that Steam window.

I am at work now and logged into the steamcommunity.com website.
I updated my user (logo), joined BK, etc.
There is a section when I click on a member of BK to "add friend" or "send message" - when I click on it nothing happens.
When I was home last night - I tried to add friend (inside the game - Black Ops) - however when I clicked it - it did nothing (no confirmation - nothing).
Any help?

tet,
I am in steamcommunity.com right now and it shows you online. I just clicked on "add friend" for you - but nothing happened? Did you get an invite from me?
It also doesn't show me online, (blue box around my name in the list) - however I AM logged in.
Any thoughts.

try adding 'arksailor' (thats me) also, blue means your online, green means your in-game, gray is offline.

I am SilexxBK
I am in the list, but it has me as "gray" offline - but I can see myself logged into the webpage - at the top it says (logout) and I am able to update my profile.
Using the same AVATAR in Steam as I am on here - I am on the bottom of the second page.

Yeah it only shows you online when you have the program up and active.

ok, right click on the steam icon in your tray, select friends. at the top by your name, there is an arrow. click that and see which option is selected (online, away, offline...)
if this doesnt work, try restarting steam.

Installing steam now to give it a go.
It seems odd they would add a feature on their website to add friends and send message, but it doesn't work...

So I figured it out....thanks...
You NEED to have steam INSTALLED and RUNNING if you want to ADD friends - even if you want to ADD friends via their steamcommunity.com website.
If you are ONLY logged into the website (and do NOT have steamrunning) - it will show you offline and you will not be able to add anything.
I think they should grey out those buttons if you don't have it running - I have spent two days wondering if was an idiot or not. Guess we know the answer now...YIKES!
