Can anyone recommend a good router for me.

Would like to keep it under $50 if possible.

Thanks

You can always try using an open source "operating system" on the router.  There are several out there, I use DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT54G and havent had any problems with it.  There is even a feature to overclock the processor on your router included in this.

Are all routers the same basiclly?...cause i have like 3 of them sitting around my house...but they are from Telus (provider in Canada), they are really good, and i'd be happy to send one your way if you want it, wouldn't charge you anything except for shipping if it's not expensive.

Be sure you are talkin about a router and not a modem. =P

there are various types. mainly speed, and with wireless ones you have frequencies they use, problem with that is that a device operating in the same (Or close) frequencies can really mess with ping times.
I'm sure there is more but i know very little about Networking. Sad

I loathe those modem/router combos devices... ugh.

However, i love my DIR-655. I've had about 7 routers over the years, and that one takes the cake. I've also had a DIR-825. It was nice, but I still prefer teh 655.

Sorry, I should have said this at the beginning.
I am also looking to upgrade to a gigabyte router.

I am not that concerned about the wireless speed. My gaming machine is wired so that is my main concern and why I am interested in going to gigabyte speed.

My kids use the wireless for their consoles.

Modem/routers aren't all that bad...if you get the right one...I have a Limksys, and it actually works very well.

Does the 655 have guest access?

Does it play nice for gaming?

I found a used on for $35 that I am trying to get.

Hoked up will be :
         wired : gaming pc, playstation
         wireless : 4-6 laptops, second playstation, xbox360, 2 pc's
