If I remember correctly and its been a while you could have a just troops only for BF2 and still be ranked but I could be wrong. So regardless you can run just troop games in BF series, I played on many of those before.

I have watched the full trailer (12 minutes) for BF3 it looks' like it is GREAT whats' coming.
